Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore., has opened their doors to the AJGA for the fifth time. The two-time host of the Rolex Tournament of Champions in 2004 and 2011 was flooded with juniors during the final week of August for the Sunriver Junior Open.
Fresh off back-to-back wins at the IZOD AJGA Championship and the Stockton Convention and Visitors Bureau Junior Open, Marianne Li of Bellevue, Wash., returned to Sunriver this year in attempts to reclaim her victory. In the 2012 Sunriver Junior Open, Li was named champion in the Girls Division after finishing with a tournament total 4-under-par 209.
Presence of Excellence
The 46th PGA Professional National Championship presented by Club Car, Mercedes-Benz USA and OMEGA held in June of this year marked the third visit to Sunriver Resort by The PGA of America’s showcase event for PGA Professionals. Ranked at No. 17 of America’s Best Residential Golf Courses by Golfweek and one of America’s Top 100 Modern Courses by Golfweek Magazine, the Crosswater Course at Sunriver is filled with challenging holes and beautiful views. The gracious Sunriver staff was generous enough to open three tee times for the AJGA staff to have the opportunity to play after a set-up day.
The maintenance staff at Sunriver has a few extra employees to help with their daily responsibilities. Three of the staff members have dogs that have been trained to behave themselves on the course and help out. Ryan Wulff, the superintendent at the Meadows Course, and his dog Marley ride the course together in the mornings. Marley started riding with Ryan every day to help get geese off the course. Marley is so well trained that he won’t leave the cart until called or signaled by Ryan. The dogs help the staff with their morning duties and provide smiles for those guests who pass them as they play.
