WindStone Golf Club is a unique track that claims two home states. Both Tennessee and Georgia are represented throughout the golf course. The address for the golf course is technically in Ringgold, Ga., but competitors will also strike the golf ball in the bordering town of Ooltewah, Tenn. On No.1, players will tee-off in Georgia and putt in Tennessee. WindStone is not just unique for its narrow fairways.
When juniors play No. 1 they will experience both Georgia and Tenneesse.
Last year the Evitt Foundation RTC Junior All-Star received the Junior All-Star of the Year Award. The Ringgold Telephone Company (RTC) serves as the title sponsor for this event. The RTC has proven to be a great sponsor by creating a fun environment for the players and their parents. Juniors enjoy activities on and off the golf course and everyone looks forward to getting involved at this tournament. This marks the fourth time this tournament has won an award from the AJGA. They won the Hospitality Award in 2003, Media Award in 2004, and Volunteer Award in 2010.
Better Tasting Ball
After a long and sometimes tough round of golf, the social activities serve as a nice break from competitive golf and give juniors and parents a chance to relax. Everyone has heard of a long drive competition, but at the Evitt Foundation RTC Junior All-Star they have a fluffy twist on the traditional game. The players will be using marshmallows as golf balls! Everyone involved with this event will have a good time, but whoever can hit the marshmallow the furthest will win the game. Other social events this week include a pizza party and Big Break Challenge.
In a field filled with talented young golfers two from the lone star state may stand out. Fourteen year olds Kaitlyn Papp and Ryan Grider both come from Texas and are both looking to win this week. Grider from Lewisville has two top-six finishes this year with the AJGA. Papp from Austin is coming off a 2012 season with three top-five finishes, and is looking to build on her fourth place finish at last years Evitt Foundation RTC Junior All-Star.
