FIRST TIME'S A CHARM
April 5-7 marks the first time Cimarron Hills will host an AJGA event. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, Cimarron Hills Golf and Country Club opened January 1, 2003 in Georgetown, Texas and has since been touted as one of the finest in Texas for its well-kept fairways, slick bentgrass greens and beautiful scenery.
ON THE FARM
The course was carved along the San Gabriel River into what used to be an old goat farm. Some of the farm’s original troughs and wells still line the well-trimmed fairways.
Jack Nicklaus was at the course once every six weeks during the design and construction of the course a decade ago. He spoke highly of the course, calling it "the finest, purest experience of golf in all the Hill Country — perhaps in all of Texas."
Out of the 84-player field, 48 of those players hail from Texas. Founded in 1840, Cimmaron Hills' home in Georgetown is known as the Red Poppy Capital of Texas and is the county seat of Williamson, County.
Georgetown is home to Southwestern University, which was chartered by the Republic of Texas in 1840 and is the oldest University in the state.Notable residents of Georgetown include Nolan Ryan, who lives in the gated Cimarron Hills community.
