Rainy days – During the 2011 Genesis Shootout presented by the Valero Texas Open, the course was extremely dry, as Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, had not seen rain in over 50 days. The 2012 tournament, however, is a completely different story. Within the first two rounds of play there have been over six hours of rain delays, and two plays suspended due to darkness.
Rain has been seen throughout the duration of the 2012 Genesis Shootout presented by the Valero Texas Open
Ace Ventura – Brandon Pierce of Covington, La., made a hole-in-one on the 189-yard par 3 No. 16 during the practice round of the Genesis Shootout presented by the Valero Texas Open. Pierce, the 2012 USGA AJGA Presidents Award winner, was modest about the situation, as he already had two aces coming into the event.
Fair Oaks Ranch – Developed in 1975, the Fair Oaks Ranch community was formed after the death of oil tycoon, Ralph Fair, Sr., who had lived in the area. In 1978, Fairs 14,000 sq. ft. home was developed into the Fair Oaks Ranch Golf and Country Club, home to the 2012 Genesis Shootout presented by the Valero Texas Open.
Owning multiple Bulls, Fair was a successful cattle breeder and helped to develop a cutting-edge insemination program. One of Fair’s bulls, Battle Intense, has a tombstone at the Fair Oaks Ranch club house and is buried at an undisclosed location on the property.
Past Champions – In 1992, 16-year-old Tiger Woods won the Genesis Shootout presented by the Valero Texas Open in its inaugural year. In 2004, LPGA player Morgan Pressel became the champion. If Marijosse Navarro, currently tied for the lead, wins the event, it will be her third time doing so after winning in both 2009 and 2010.
