Throughout the 2011 Wyndham Cup, Communications staffers Nick Moreland and Matt Tradewell will serve as Team Correspondents and report the inside scoop from each team. Nick will document the East’s quest to claim its first Cup since 2004, while Matt will provide insight from inside the huddle of the six-time defending champions from the West.
East Team Correspondence (Monday night)
As the Wyndham Cup is centered on team play, the East made an early statement Monday night and showed that they are together as one in the quest to end the West’s six-year winning streak.
Each of the East’s five boys’ pairings will feature teammates who are rooming together, and all 10 players were excited to learn that they’ll be playing with someone they’ve already spent several hours with – both on and off the course.
This is especially true for Cody Proveaux of Leesville, S.C., and Matthew NeSmith of North Augusta, S.C. – a South Carolina duo that will anchor the morning matches and look to cap off the morning session.
“We’ve been talking about it (playing together) for a while,” Proveaux said. “The East is the underdog since we’ve lost the last six years so we know we’re going to have to go in strong and confident to see what we can do.”
With this approach, members of the East’s boys should have confidence in the person they’re playing alongside in hopes to make a run for the Cup. The East is bonding and enjoying their time in Wilmington and look forward to getting things underway on Tuesday morning.
“The team is awesome,” NeSmith said. “Even the people we don’t know, we make great friends and it’s been a fun week already.”
