While notable AJGA alumni such as Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler, Hunter Mahan, Sean O’Hair, Anthony Kim and Kevin Na gear up at The Masters at Augusta National, a new breed of young juniors will make their AJGA debut at the Preseason Junior at Brookhaven on Brookhaven Country Club’s Masters Course.
Located in Dallas, The Masters Course at Brookhaven Country Club will offer a challenge to those teeing off this weekend. Playing as a par-72 for the Boys Division and par-73 for the Girls Division, The Masters Course measures out at 6,633 yards and 5,950 yards, respectively. The narrow fairways, which are accented by tricky roughs and a range of water hazards, will force players to keep the ball in play and approach shots should be kept below the hole. Mesquite trees can also be found throughout the course, notably on No. 5 which features trees scattered in the fairway, adding a challenge for the players.
“It will be important for the juniors to utilize all aspects of their game,” Tournament Director Courtney Jones said. “With high Texas winds in the forecast, one will have to have to know how to hit a lot of different shots. A creative player will be who comes out on top.”
As the home course to notable AJGA players such as Jordan Spieth and Talia Campbell, Brookhaven Country Club is no stranger to great play. And while the second round of The Masters roars on, the next big golf star could very well be teeing off at The Masters Course this weekend.
