Going somewhere for the first time can be nerve-racking, especially when you don’t know if you’re going to be accepted. If I may quote Garth Algar from Wayne’s World: “people fear change.” As insightful as Dana Carvey’s character may be, the saying does not seem to apply to the people of Killington, Vermont.
The amount of generosity shown from those who make this ski town home year-round was unbelievable. Numerous signs on hotels and restaurants could be found throughout the town welcoming AJGA players and parents. There was a pizza party held for all those involved with the tournament at a local restaurant. Even the governor got into the act. Vermont Governor Jim Douglas made an appearance at the awards ceremony to say a few words and congratulate all the award winners.
It really says something special about your town if it is able to generate this much support for a junior golf tournament. The people of Killington have embraced this event from the beginning and this is reflected in their hospitality and overall support of the AJGA and what we do.
So to the people of Killington, the staff at Green Mountain National Golf Course, and Governor Douglas, we say thank you for opening up your golf course, town and state for the week. It is greatly appreciated by the players, parents, and staff and we hope to have left as good of an impression on you that you did on us.
